With a limited opportunity for a WiFi connection, I'll scratch out a few thoughts as I sit in this jungle Paradise, in the Cayo district of Western Belize.
After a long period in transit, via San Francisco and Houston, I arrived on the morning of March 15th. I didn't have an actual street address of where I was going to be staying, which was not the answer that the immigration officer wanted to hear. Now what??? Will I be hopping back on board the plane I had just arrived on? Thankfully, she let me be escorted by a security guard to the waiting area where I was happy to see my friends, Guy and Pauline. Shortly there after, the four of us (which also included another friend of theirs named Kelli who had arrived just minutes after me), headed out on the two plus hour drive to the 57 acre property called the Stardust Sanctuary Farm. It was time for a short visit, followed by a long sleep.
Without a doubt, one of the most notable items on a list of notables here in Belize, is the prolific and varied bird life. From many species of hummingbirds right on through to the Keel-Billed Toucan, its difficult to keep up with all of the various bird songs. Its simply amazing and wonderful.
Overall it has been a very relaxing first week with one of the highlights just yesterday when the four of us stumbled across a local who helped us navigate through eight miles of thick jungle to a magnificent waterfall and pools to swim in. We would have never found it without Antonio's assistance for which we were most grateful.
I'll end this for today. I'm glad that I have had the chance to post this, and I will update again next week as long as the Mayan Internet gods are happy. My posts will be short, because typing on a Kindle is much more arduous, than on a normal keyboard
living a life of simple acceptance,
Paul
