COSTCO AND DORA-DOG

The Boneheaded Bonehead

Yesterday, Mary and I went on a journey to Costco to pick up a few supplies.  A trip to Costco is a rare event for me, but even I could tell that we are living in abnormal times.  It was interesting to wander through the store, along with the very few others who were there at the time.
Some had masks on, others did not. But from my point of view, it seemed like a shop full of zombie-like humans walking from one location to another.  I was happy when we finally checked out and headed back to the car.  I forgot to mention that when we first entered the store, the very first item we were confronted with was a huge display of Corona beer.  It made me wonder out loud if the store manager has some weird sense of humour, or whether it was just a coincidence?

Dora-dog was happy to see us return to the car, and before long we were on our way home, to spend another day in these very strange times.  Thankfully, Dora keeps the two of us amused, as can be seen in the photo at the top of the page.  For her, it's just another day.  Nothing has changed in her world.  As long as she has food to eat, water to drink, and a human to play with,  she seems to be very content.  She can teach us all a lesson, and that is,  to live in the moment.

Of course, after a play-filled day, Dora-dog is ready to have a nap, in order to restore her energy for the next round of whatever it is we get up to, whether it's playing with her dog toys, or going for a long walk.

Resting, in anticipation of the next round of play.

ANOTHER WEEK GOES POOF

Poof!!!  Another week is now history.  The time was spent, sleeping, eating, walking Dora-dog, playing cards, weeding the driveway, and watching some old episodes of Black Adder.  Stimulating conversation with Mary rounded out the list.  Such is life in April, 2020.  And today, my niece Laura turns 47 years old.  Where does the time go?

What will this week hold in store?

COVID- 19 AND THE EFFECT ON GLOBAL DIMMING

With all of the talk these days about COVID-19, one aspect that doesn't get discussed is the effect that the resulting reduction of industrial activity in the world has on the issue of global dimming.

The perfect person to discuss this important detail, is my dear friend, Dr. Guy McPherson.  Here is a link to his most recent essay.  It covers all the details that you need to know.

Take it away, Guy.

In the media frenzy to cover every minor detail regarding COVID-19,  many other important topics have just fallen by the wayside.  What a crazy world we live in right now.

DORA-DOG'S REPORT

Dora-dog, the roving reporter on duty.

The Thoughtful Wanderer has given me the use of his platform to give you my view of the world right now.  All I can say is, something is definitely up, and I haven't yet figured out just what it is.

He arrived here at my home quite some time ago, and I am rather surprised that he is still here.  Don't get me wrong, as I do enjoy his company, but usually not for this long of a time span.  The good news from my point of view, is that I have used this time to my best advantage.  After all, it's all about me.

Every day now, he takes me out for my squirrel patrol walk, down to the marina and back home.  I have him trained so well, that when I stop to look at a squirrel, he stops as well.  I'll make a squirreler out of him yet.  He has made substantial improvement so far, but I still need to train him on some of the finer points.  He has yet to perfect the stare-up-the-tree-to-look-at-the-squirrel stance, but I'm working on it.  Humans are very slow learners after all.  As long as he stays, I will have more time to implement my cunning plan.

A second part of my plan is to get him to play one of my favourite games in the back yard.  I call it chase-the-bone.  I grab the bone, and he tries to take it away from me.  He is almost never successful at this task, but he keeps trying.  I let him get extremely close to me in order to grab the bone from my mouth, and just when he thinks he's going to be successful, I do a quick duck and weave, and zip right past him.  It's great fun, and he seems to enjoy the game as much as I do, in spite of the fact that he rarely if ever gets a hold of the bone.  I'm amazed that he hasn't given up after all of this time, but humans can be pretty clueless.  I will continue to take advantage while I can, and give him just enough opportunity to grab the bone, so that he will keep on playing the game.

So life has been going pretty good for me for quite some time now, and then the other day this happened.  Like I stated in the opening paragraph, something is definitely up.

If memory serves, The Thoughtful Wanderer and I had just come in from the yard after playing another game of chase-the-bone, and the next thing you know, I've got this thing on my head.  I wasn't impressed, but the humans seemed to get a laugh at my expense. Apparently, this thing on my head has something to do with a virus, whatever that is.

Thankfully they removed it shortly after the photo was taken, and it was none too soon as far as I was concerned.  It's difficult to discern my amazing cuteness when it is covered over in this manner.

So as long as The Thoughtful Wanderer sticks around, I will continue to take advantage of him at every opportunity.  The truth be known, I think he rather enjoys my company. And I will continue to try and work out exactly what is going on in the world.  The humans are behaving in a strange manner these days.

Dora-dog.

Thanks for your canine point of view, Dora-dog.
